First Look Media has announced a rise of 121% in its second quarter 2001 revenues to $9.8m from $4.4m in the second quarter 2000. Operating results for the three-month period ended June 30 showed an operating loss down to $0.5m from $0.8m in the same quarter last year.

The revenue rise was primarily attributable to higher film revenues from foreign territories and an increase in the sale of US TV rights, as well as strong performances from video releases and a rise in airline and other distribution revenues during the period.

Year-over-year net loss was down 50% from $1.4m to $0.7m in the same three months 20000. In the last quarter, the company also secured a $7m increase in commitments under its present line of credit with JP Morgan, raising its total to $40m.

First half 2001 revenues grew 91% to $20m against $9.5m in the same period 2000.

First Look titles My Kingdom and The Jimmy Show will have their world premieres in the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival. 13 Conversations About One Thing, to which First Look's sales arm Overseas Filmgroup has international rights, will play in Venice and Toronto, while Venice will also honour Peter Fonda with a tribute and screening of the restored version of The Hired Hand (1971) to which First Look has worldwide rights.
