The last few years have all been about horror films from Spain but 2009 promises a more diverse slate of projects.

One of the few scary movies in the works is Filmax's [Rec 2] which will be offered to buyers for the first time at the AFM. Jamie Balauguero is back in the director's seat for the project which is now in pre-production.

Filmax will also be presenting another sequel in the shape of the animated Hairy Tooth Fairy 2 about an adventurous mouse. Argentinian director Andres Schaer replaces Juan Pablo Buscarini in the director's chair.

Madrid-based sales outfit 6 Sales will be showcasing Fernando Trueba's romantic drama Victoria's Dance, about a notorious thief who falls in love with an angel, prompting him to take on the biggest heist of his life. Argentinian superstar Ricardo Darin will star in the project which is now in pre-production.

First-time directors dominate Kevin Williams Associates' AFM slate. They include Xavi Puebla's topical drama Bienvenido A Farewell - Gutmann, about three employees at a pharmaceutical company battling it out for one job, Lucas Fernandez' Oscar, The Color Of Destiny about the surrealist painter Oscar Dominguez, starring Joaquim de Almeida, and Aitzol Aramaio's Un Poco De Chocolate, a family drama starring veteran actor Hector Alterio.

DeAPlaneta is also presenting projects from first-timers, including Ferran Audi's psychological drama The Frost, starring Aitana Sanchez-Gijon, and Irene Cardona's A Fiance For Yasmina, a Spain-Morocco co-production about a marriage of convenience.

Imagina Sales will be promoting Chilean director Nicolas Lopez' comedy-drama Santos about a comic-book nerd who becomes a superhero in a parallel universe, starring Javier Gutierrez, while Sogepaq International will present Angeles Gonzalez Sinde's drama One Word From You, which has already made $1.3m (Eu1m) at the Spanish box office.

'We are now looking for US and international distributors,' says Gorka Bilbao Camatta, who is presently running Sogepaq International alone while the sales outfit awaits the outcome of the sale of its parent company Sogecable.
