Shooting is underway in Iowa on the drama Janie Jones starring Alessandro Nivola, Abigail Breslin and Elizabeth Shue.

Keith Kjarval’s Unified Pictures and Eric Bassett and David Lynch’s Absurda are 50-50 producer and sales partners on the project, inspired by an episode in director David Rosenthal’s life.

The story centres on an ageing rocker who meets his 13-year-old daughter for the first time. Frank Whaley, Brittany Snow, Peter Stormare and Joel David Moore round out the cast.

Shooting is scheduled to run for three weeks before production movies to Chicago. Unified and Absurda will commence sales in AFM.

“The time we are living in right now makes a feel-good film like this more necessary than ever,” Kjarval, who is producing with Bassett, said. “David has created something that traded on the emotions he felt when he met his daughter and the story just hooked us.”

Unified and Absurda collaborated on the psychological thriller My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done, which will get its North American premiere in Toronto on September 16 following its world premiere in Venice.
