Woody Allen’s romantic comedy Midnight In Paris has been sold to indie outfit Alta Films for release in Spanish theatres through their distribution wing Alta Classics.

The deal was brokered between the Spanish producers of the film MediaPro and Alta Films directly. Imagina handles international sales.

Alta Films had released Allen’s previous film You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger in Spanish theatres last year with great success taking $6m in what proved to be a tough year at the box office for indie titles.

Midnight In Paris is a romantic comedy about a family travelling to the French capital for business, starring Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, Kathy Bates, Michael Sheen and Adrien Brody.

The film, which will premiere as the opening film at Cannes, has already sold to several key territories, including Sony Pictures Classics for the US, Mars Films for France, Medusa for Italy and Concorde for Germany.

It is the third Woody Allen film that MediaPro and Gravier Productions have worked on together following their successful collaboration on Vicky Cristina Barcelona and You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger.

Alta Films will release Midnight In Paris in Spanish theatres on May 13.
