Australianscreenwriter Andrew Bovell (Lantana, Head On) has signed on to write Catch 23 Entertainmentand BBC Films' feature adaptation of the award-winning BBC drama series, EdgeOf Darkness. Catch 23and BBC Films will co-develop, co-finance and co-produce the project.

It will bedirected by the thriller series' original director Martin Campbell, whosefeature credits include Vertical Limit, GoldenEye and the upcoming Beyond Borders, starring Clive Owen and Angelina Jolie.The announcement was made today (Jan 28) by Catch 23 chairman Robert Sturm andBBC Films chief David Thompson.

Edge OfDarkness won six BAFTAawards after it was broadcast in 1985 and recently ranked 15th in the BritishFilm Instituteís top 100 television programmes of the 20th century. Thestory centres on a policeman's quest to find his daughter's killersthat takes him to the heart of national security.

Rachel Wood,head of C23 UK production, and Suzanne Warren will oversee the project forCatch 23 and Peter Kalmbach, senior vice president of production, will assumeduties for the BBC in Los Angeles. Catch 23 is based in London and Los Angelesand was formed by Sturm in 2000. Its first feature was Mark Romanek'sacclaimed thriller One Hour Photo, which was co-financed with Fox Searchlight. The company hasnumerous titles in development both in the UK and the US.
