EXCLUSIVE: The Sherlock actor joins Matthew Wachus’ gay pride comedy.

Andrew Scott has joined the cast of Matthew Warchus’ gay pride comedy Pride.

In Pride, he plays a character named Gethin who traverses the two groups in the film: gay and lesbian activists and striking Welsh miners. The film will shoot starting on October 7 in London and Wales.

Pride’s ensemble cast also includes Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West and Paddy Considine. David Livingstone produces for Calamity and Pathe will distribute in the UK and France and handle international sales. The film was developed by Pathé and Calamity Films and is being co-financed by Pathé, Proud Films, BBC Films and the BFI.

Irish-born, London-based Scott is best known for his BAFTA-winning role as Moriarty in TV’s Sherlock,and he is currently shooting Ken Loach’s Jimmy’s Hall.

”I’m delighted to be a part of it, I think it’s going to be a really special movie,” Scott said of Pride.

He is in Toronto as one of the stars of John Butler’s Irish stag party comedy The Stag. And he also has a voice part in Venice hit Locke.
