The new multiplex in Wales will house six Sony 4K digital screens, 3D enabled systems from RealD.

Apollo Cinemas is today opening Europe’s first fully digital, all 3D multiplex in Carmarthen, Wales, revealing the fruits of its partnerships with both Sony Professional and RealD.

The new multiplex will house six Sony 4K digital screens, which will be able to show 3D projects thanks to RealD’s systems.

Rob Arthur, managing director at Apollo Cinemas, said: “3D has fascinated and captivated audiences everywhere since the 1950s and the creation of this all digital, all 3D multiplex will now take 3D to a new and even more exciting level. Viewers will enjoy a totally immersive and intense cinema experience; such as they’ve never seen or felt before.”

Oliver Pasch, head of digital cinema at Sony Professional, added: “The launch of this landmark new multiplex puts Apollo at the forefront of innovation within the cinema industry. This project was built on the idea of bringing something new to this industry and we are very proud to be working with Apollo on this.”

Apollo Cinemas originally decided to switch to digital with Sony Digital Cinema 4K projection so as to be at the forefront of innovation and provide viewers with the best experience possible. Apollo’s Carmarthen multiplex will be the ninth of Apollo’s 14 sites across the UK to introduce high quality digital projection.
