The Italian Job has raced up the charts from the 18th to the fourth slot despite a mere increase of three prints from UIP. Word of mouth and glowing reviews has boosted its performance. In contrast, local thriller El Polaquito which also opened last week, sunk like a stone. Teen slasher Freddy Vs Jason remains on top while Fox's 28 Days Later pushed Foreign Oscar contender Valentin down to third.

Local comedy Soy Tu Aventura, about two bankrupt cousins who kidnap a famous Argentine singer in hope of getting away with the ransom money, opened at number seven, with a mediocre screen average of $819 from 29 screens.

Expectations are higher for upcoming release of Mexican/Argentinian co-production Nicotina which is written by Martin Salinas and directed by Hugo Rodriguez, both from Argentina. It goes up against Seabiscuit, Whalerider, The Life Of David Gale, and Femme Fatale.
