AcclaimedArgentinian director and writer Eduardo Mignogna died today of cancer in BuenosAires. He was 66.

Mignognashot eight multi-awarded feature films and was also a published writer and arenowned TV director.

His filmssuch as Sol de Oto-o (Autumn Sun), La Fuga(The Escape), Cleopatra, El Faro (The Lighthouse), Flop and most recently El Viento (The Wind) were all critical and commercialsuccesses in Argentina and also in foreign territories, especially France andSpain.

Mignognahad a long-term relationship with the Spanish film industry, where he was oftenfinanced and recognized. He was a regular at the San Sebastian and Valladolidfilm festivals and won three Goya Awards for The Escape, Autumn Sun and The Lighthouse.

The filmmakerwas about to start shooting a new film, called La Se-al (The Signal), with Ricardo Darin, Andrea Pietraand Julieta Diaz.

His lastfilm, The Wind,starring Federico Luppi and Antonella Costa, was released in Argentina inAugust 2005.
