Arthouse Films has acquired North American and worldwide rights to feature documentary Visual Acoustics: The Modernism Of Julius Shulman.

Eric Bricker directed the film, which explores the career of 98-year-old architectural photographer Julius Shulman, who works with human models and striking landscapes to explore how nature mixes with urban design. Dustin Hoffman narrates the film, which also features interviews with Frank Gehry, Tom Ford, Ed Ruscha, Kelly Lynch, Dante Spinotti, Mitch Glazer and others.

David Koh and Lilly Bright on behalf of Arthouse Films & Curiously Bright Entertainment negotiated the deal with Josh Braun of Submarine Entertainment and Jackie Eckhouse of Sloss Eckhouse Brennan Law Company on behalf of the director and producers.

Arthouse plans a theatrical release in mid-2009, followed by a DVD release also on the Arthouse Films label.

Visual Acoustics recently won the audience award for best documentary at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, after picking up earlier prizes at the Austin Film Festival and Lone Star International Film Festival.

David Koh and Lilly Bright said: 'Shulman is a living legend and we are thrilled to add this fascinating film to our library. The movie is one of the best general compendiums of modern architecture and will be a must see for anyone interested in art, architecture, and photography.'

Director Bricker added: 'We are thrilled to be working with Arthouse Films. They are the ideal distributor for Visual Acoustics in terms of reaching our niche audience and -- a rarity in this field -- are a filmmakers dream for the amount of hands on participation they seem willing to accord us in crafting the ideal release for the film.'

New York-based Arthouse's other upcoming releases including Doug Pray's Art & Copy; Emily & Sarah Kunstler's William Kunstler: Disturbing The Universe; Wendy Keys' Milton Glaser: To Inform & Delight; and Aaron Rose's Beautiful Losers.
