The Arts Council England and the UK Film Council's New Cinema Fund have launched Single Shot, a multi-platform touringprogramme of moving image projects.

Single Shot will commission film and video projects - based on theconcept of a single unedited shot - by established artists and new talents.

Also the Arts Council and UKFC will support the development of fourfeature ideas, with two selected projects winning production funds totalling$466,387 (£250,000). The four features being considered are from Clio Barnard, Egrin Cavusoglu, Hexstatic and Gillian Wearing.

The programme will launch in November in galleries, cinemas, outdoorscreens and on the internet (www.single-shot.co.uk) as downloads to portabledevices and mobile phones. A UK tourwill follow in 2007.

The artists commissioned are George Barber, Clio Barnard, Sean Dower, Ori Gersht, Mike Marshall, andPaul Rooney. The new talents strand, with Maya Vision, selected Shane Davey, Ben Dodd, Matthew Grinter,Julie Hill, Christian Krupa, HyewonKwon, Matthew Murdoch, Tula Parker and Anna Weatherston, and Dave Richards.

Paul Trijbits, head of the New Cinema Fund, said: 'Artistsand film makers need to be able to experiment and challenge audiences, and theNew Cinema Fund has a key role to play in this. Our initiative with ArtsCouncil England is another much-needed stepping stone to create an environment,in which such experimentation is possible."
