German sales agent Atlas International film will be in Cannes to handle pre-sales for the UK romantic comedy Quick, Slip Me A Bride.

Speaking exclusively to ScreenDaily, Kai-Roger Grüneke, chief executive of atlas international’s parent company Entertainment Value Associates (EVA), said that his company may also board the project as a German co-producer.

The $ 7.5m production by writer-director Raza Mallal’s Leeds-based Talking Lens Productions has lined up Indian actress Bipasha Basu, Robert Hardy, Ross Kemp and Susan Hampshire. It is scheduled to begin shooting in the UK in late summer.

Mallal’s film about a young Englishman’s increasingly desperate methods to find a wife in order to avoid the priesthood leads him to consider an arranged marriage with an Indian girl. Since no Indian parents would allow an Englishman on the rebound to marry their daughter, he realises that he’ll have to become an Indian to reach his goal.

“It is a British comedy with an Indian touch which has a universal message of ‘love conquering all’,” Grüneke said.

Mallal, who recently completed filming the comedy drama Licked, had participated in last year’s BABYLON film development programme with Quick, Slip Me A Bride.
