Montreal-based Atopia Distribution has acquired North America rights to Aron Gauder's animated musical The District! (Nyocker!). The Hungarian film made its North American premiere at Toronto in 2006 and went on to win 13 prizes across a swath of international film festivals.

The social comedy tells the story of a group of teens from the wrong side of Budapest's tracks who band together to make themselves rich by traveling back in time, burying a horde of mammoths under the city's streets, then returning to the present and drilling for oil.

The deal was negotiated between Atopia's Pascal Maeder and Mitch Davis and SzimplaFilm's Kreet Paljas.

Atopia plans a number of limited theatrical engagements beginning with Austin, Texas; Boston; Seattle; Montreal and Toronto, followed by a December DVD release. EMI's Caroline Distribution is handling the US while Morningstar Entertainment will distribute the discs within Canada.
