Stefan Ruzowitzky's Second World War drama The Counterfeiters (Die Faelscher), which was first shown in competition at February's Berlinale, has been selected as the Austrian entry for the 80th Academy Awards.
This is the second time that a film by Ruzowitzky has been submitted by Austria for the Best Foreign Language Film category consideration after his historical drama Die Siebtelbauern in 1998.
The Counterfeiters - which is being handled internationally by Beta Cinema - will be having its North American premiere at the forthcoming Telluride Film Festival and then screen in the programme of the Toronto International Film Festival.
The short list of the five nominated films for the Best Foreign Language Film category will be unveiled on January 22, 2008.
