Fox International's AlienVs Predator and Paramount's remakeof comedy-drama Alfie face theunenviable task of trying to dethrone DreamWorks' box office champion SharkTale when they open in the UK on Oct22.

The animated hit opened toplast weekend on $13.6m and will take some beating. AVP goes out wide on 470 prints and Fox executives willlook for decent weekend business to boost its $24.8m international runningtotal.

Alfie opens through UIP on an unspecified number ofscreens and should do good business due to British star Jude Law, who assumesthe role of the arch philanderer made famous by Michael Caine in the 1966original.

Fox International releasesthe hit I, Robot in Italy on Oct22 on 457 screens. The sci-fi thriller has grossed $188m to date and isexpected to pass $200m by the end of its run.

Elsewhere, the distributorreleases the comedy Dodgeball,which has taken $45.7m outside the US so far, in Brazil on Oct 22 on 94, and WalkingTall in Spain the same day on 200.That picture has performed poorly internationally, grossing $8.1m to date.

The Fox comedy Garfield has grossed $114.5m and drama Man On Fire has taken $29.8m in Fox territories and $33m throughall distributors.

Supernatural mystery TheForgotten gets its firstinternational releases through Columbia TriStar Film Distributors International(CTFDI) in Spain and Mexico on Oct 22 on 257 and 300 prints respectively.

Good debuts are on the cardsgiven the success of the genre in both territories this year. The Village opened top in Mexico on $3.9m and top in Spain on$6.4m last month.

The distributor was due toopen Resident Evil: Apocalypse inAustralia on Oct 21 on 150. The horror sequel has taken $45.7m industry-wide asof Oct 17 and CTFDI executives will hope for a better debut than the original,which opened in sixth place in April 2002 on $717,300.

CTFDI was set to open thecomedy White Chicks in France onOct 20 on 280. The picture has amassed $16.4m through all distributors to date.

Universal's spy thriller TheBourne Supremacy opens wide inGermany through UIP on Oct 21 on 584 and is expected to perform well,considering that The Bourne Identity opened top in late September 2002 on $3.6m.

The Bourne Supremacy has taken $80.5m to date. The romantic comedy Wimbledon, currently on $16.4m, opens in Brazil on Oct 22 on75 and was set to go out in France through Mars on Oct 21.

Buena Vista International's(BVI) epic King Arthur opens inChina on Oct 22; it has grossed $140.8m to date.

BVI's firefighter drama Ladder49 opens in Spain on Oct 22, whilefamily sequel The Princess Diaries 2 was due to open in France on Oct 20 and goes out in Brazil on Oct 22.It currently has a $12.2m international running total.

Miramax's romantic comedyremake Shall We Dance' gets itsfirst international launch through BVI in Australia on Oct 21.

There are no major openingsscheduled this weekend for Warner Bros Pictures International. Latest grossesreleased by executives put Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban on $538.7m and Catwoman on $35.5m, while Scooby-Doo 2 is closing in on $100m with a $95.9m cumulativescore.
