As If I Am Not There chosen as Ireland's Oscar submission

Juanita Wilson’s feature debut has been chosen by the Irish Film & Television Academy as Ireland’s submission for the Foreign Language Oscar.

The feature debut of Irish writer/director Juanita Wilson is based on Croatian journalist Slavenka Drakulic’s book of the same name about her experiences of the Ballkan War in the 1990s. Natasa Petrovic and Miraj Grbic star.

It premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2010 and has been included in the Official Selection for the European Film Awards this year. It won three awards – best film, best director and best screenplay - at the Irish Film and Television Awards earlier this year.

The Irish-Macedonian-Swedish co-production was shot in the Balkans in the Serbo-Croation language, but was produced and developed by Irish based Octagon Films along with Nathalie Lichtenthaeler for Wide Eye Films.

Wilson was previously nominated for an Academy Award in 2010 for her live action short film The Door.
