Awards round-up: Jennifer Lawrence, Ang Lee find favour

Lawrence, riding high on her Spirit Award best actress nomination on Tuesday for Silver Linings Playbook, will receive the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s Outstanding Performer Of The Year Award.

“Ms Lawrence impressed us earlier this year in The Hunger Games, but has now left us moonstruck with her career-defining performance in Silver Linings Playbook – recalling classic turns by Lombard, Stanwyck and Colbert,” said executive director Roger Durling. “Naming her our Outstanding Performer Of The Year is an understatement.”

Lawrence [pictured in Silver Linings Playbook] will collect her award on Feb 2. The festival runs from Jan 24-Feb 3.

Life Of Pi director Ang Lee will receive the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ 2013 Filmmaker Award at the 60th MPSE Golden Reel Awards on Feb 17.

“Ang Lee is a fascinating innovator,” said MPSE president Bobbi Banks. “He continually breaks ground through the use of the latest technology both visually and sonically.

“That continues with Life Of Pi where his use of Dolby Atmos guides audiences into the emotional intimacy of the sound experience. The Motion Picture Sound Editors takes great pride in honouring his contributions to world cinema.”
