BAFTAs move back a week to remain ahead of the Oscars.

BAFTA’s EE British Academy Film Awards will take place on Sunday 16 February 2014 at London’s Royal Opera House.

The date is one week later than this year’s event and keeps the BAFTAs two weeks ahead of the Oscar ceremony, which earlier this week announced its March 2 date, in a move to avoid a clash with the Winter Olympics closing ceremony.

BAFTA has yet to announce its nominations date, which this year was one day before the Oscar nominations. Oscar nominations will be revealed on January 16, 2014.

As in recent years, this year’s BAFTAs fell on the first Sunday of the Berlin Film Festival, meaning a small number of industry chose to curtail their trips to Berlin or avoid the market all-together in order to be in London. More industry might be free to attend Berlin next year if the festival keeps to an early February date.
