The Metafilms and Sons Of Manual drama premiered in Cannes where it earned Xavier Dolan the jury prize.

eOne/Les Films Séville distributes the film directly in English and French Canada and sales agent Séville International has licensed to more than 50 countries.

Anne Dorval, Antoine Olivier Pilon and Suzanne Clément star in the story that takes place in a fictional Canada where a law allows distressed parents to abandon troubled children to the hospital system.

“We are proud and honoured to represent Canada in the Oscar race and we sincerely hope that Mommy will take us as far as possible,” said producer Nancy Grant.

Submissions for best foreign-language film for the 87th Academy Awards will continue to trickle in until October 1.

The selection committee will whittle down the submissions to a shortlist of nine before the five nominees are announced on January 15, 2015.

The awards ceremony takes place on February 22, 2015, in Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.

Last year a record 76 countries submitted features and Paolo Sorrentino’s Italian entry The Great Beauty went on to win the Oscar.
