The Oscar earned a SAG lead actress nomination earlier on Wednesday (12) for her performance as Alma Reville in Hitchcock. She will collect her honour on Jan 5 in Palm Springs.

The International Star Award “recognises an actor or actress who has achieved both critical and commercial international recognition throughout their body of work”.

Previous recipients include Javier Bardem and Gary Oldman.

“With more than four decades’ worth of memorable film, television and stage performances, Helen Mirren continues to be one of the most outstanding actresses of her generation,” said festival chairman Harold Matzner.

“In Hitchcock, Mirren delivers another virtuoso performance as Alma Reville, wife to the great master of cinema, who was integral to creating his classic films including the masterpiece Psycho.”

Mirren won the Oscar for The Queen in 2006 and earned nominations for The Madness Of King George, Gosford Park and The Last Station. Her credits includeExcalibur, The Long Good Friday, The Age Of Consent, Red, Calendar Girls, Some Mother’s Son and The Cook, The Thief, His Wife And her Lover.

The 24th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival is set to run from Jan 3-14.
