Freeman will collect the honour at the 69th annual Golden Globes on Jan 15, 2012.

He won the Golden Globe for best actor in 1990 for Driving Miss Daisy and in 2005 was named best supporting actor at the Academy Awards for Million Dollar Baby.

Past recipients include Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Anthony Hopkins and Barbra Streisand.
