London Critics to honour Kristin Scott Thomas

The London Film Critics Circle will honour Kristin Scott Thomas with the Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Cinema, at the 31st Critics’ Circle Film Awards.

London Film Critics’ Circle Committee Chair Jason Solomons said: “Any acting appearance by Kristin Scott Thomas is always greatly anticipated by British critics. Her talent and elegance illuminate the screen, allowing her acting to speak for itself, whether in English, French or American. Films such as I’ve Loved You So Long, Random Hearts and Nowhere Boy at first seem miles apart but Kristin’s presence brings mystery, emotional depth and enigmatic beauty to them all. Of course, her career has still a long way to go, but the volume and variety of her work so far represents exactly the sort of intelligent contribution to the art of performance that thoroughly merits our Dilys Powell Award.” 

Scott Thomas added: “It is very exciting to be included in the illustrious company of those previous recipients. I think that film criticism is really important to keep audiences curious about cinema and different types of filmmaking.” 

As previously reported, The King’s Speech leads the awards nominations, with seven nods, including in the major categories Film Of The Year and British Film Of The Year. Director Tom Hooper is nominated for British Director Of The Year but not for Director Of The Year.

The Social Network follows closely with five nominations.

This year’s edition of the Critics’ Circle Film Awards will be held on Feb 10, for the first time at BFI Southbank, in aid of their new charity partner, the BFI Archive.

The London Film Critics’ Circle comprises more than 120 members of UK film critics, broadcasters and writers.
