Other multiple nominees include The Revenant and The Martian;

Mad Max Fury Road

Mad Max: Fury Road and Star Wars: The Force Awakens lead the nominees at this year’s Jameson Empire Awards, securing 10 and nine nominations respectively.

The awards, voted for by the public, has also seen The Martian secure six nominations and The Revenant five.

The Best Male Newcomer award has proved more diverse than the Oscars, with nominees including Abraham Attah (Beasts Of No Nation), John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Thomas Mann (Me And Earl And The Dying Girl), Jason Mitchell (Straight Outta Compton) and Jacob Tremblay (Room).

Also overlooked at the major awards, Creed actor Michael B. Jordan will be up against Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant), Matt Damon (The Martian), Michael Fassbender (Macbeth/Steve Jobs) and Tom Hardy (Legend/Mad Max: Fury Road).

This year marks the introduction of 11 new categories, also spanning TV and games. This will see feature documentaries such as Amy, He Named Me Malala and Alex Gibney’s Scientology film going up against acclaimed series such as The Jinx and Making A Murderer for Best Documentary.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on March 20, hosted by David Walliams.
