Birdman star to receive award at the festival in January.
Birdman star Michael Keaton will receive the Modern Master Award at the 30th Santa Barbara International Film Festival (Jan 27-Feb 7).
The tribute will take place on Jan 31 and is the festival’s highest honour, recognising an “individual who has enriched our culture through his/her multi-faceted accomplishments in the motion picture industry”.
Previous recipients include Michael Douglas, Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, Diane Keaton, Sean Penn, Cate Blanchett and Ben Affleck.
“There is no actor more befitting of the Modern Master Award than the legendary Michael Keaton,” said SBIFF executive director Roger Durling.
“His performance in Birdman is tremendous, showing the range of decade’s long experience.”
