Contenders for the 2014 Canadian Screen Awards will be able to apply online for the first time following a deal between The Academy Of Canadian Cinema & Television and secure digital media management company Yangaroo.

The Academy’s online application site for television and digital media entries will go live in mid-July, with a mid-August entry deadline for those categories. Film entries will open up in mid-September with a mid-October deadline.

Under the terms of the agreement, the latter will provide, maintain and host a digital awards system for the Academy that will also enable the secure upload of films, television shows, digital media productions, trailers and photos and provide jurors with secure links to streaming video clips.

“Yangaroo brings the Academy’s entry and voting systems into the digital age, making everything easier for our members,” said the Academy’s director of awards and special events Louis Calabro. “This new process also allows for more promotion of our great Canadian talent.”

“Since launching in 2008 with Canada’s Juno Awards, Yangaroo’s digital solution for awards shows has quickly emerged as the industry standard in North America and is now used by the Grammys, the Emmys, the MTV Video Music Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards, the BET Awards, and many more,” said Yangaroo vice-chairman and COO Cliff Hunt.

“We are excited by the opportunity to work with the Academy on the Canadian Screen Awards and look forward to a long and successful relationship.”
