Hurt Locker, The Maid among IFP New York Gotham winners
IFP New York handed out the first prizes in the 2009/10 awards season last night [November 30] as Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker and Robert Kenner’s Food, Inc were named best feature and documentary at the 19th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York.
Catalina Saavedra from Sebastian Silva’s Chilean drama The Maid took the prize for breakthrough actor while Robert Siegel won in the breakthrough director category for Big Fan.
The Hurt Locker’s Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty, Ralph Fiennes, Guy Pearce, David Morse and Evangeline Lilly won for ensemble performance and Ry Russo-Young’s You Won’t Miss Me was named Best Film Not Playing At A Theater Near You.
As previously announced, Bigelow, Brothers star Natalie Portman, Julie & Julia and The Lovely Bones star Stanley Tucci and Working Title founders Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner received career tributes.
IFP executive director Michelle Byrd is leaving the organisation after 16 years of service. Joana Vicente is stepping in as interim executive director until a permanent replacement is found
