Grainger David of NYU’s Tisch School Of The Arts will receive the 2012 Alfred P Sloan Foundation Student Grand Jury Prize for Screenwriting at an evening reception in New York on Thursday (5).

Grainger, who hails from Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, will receive a $50,000 grant comprising a $30,000 cash prize and $20,000to be used in direct support of his project, Penny Stock.

The award includes year-round mentorship from the scientific and film industry community as well as networking opportunities and industry exposure.

Penny Stockwas selected by an awards committee comprised of Ally Sheedy, Rachael Leigh Cook, Saturday Night Fever director John Badham, scientist and bioweaponeer Sergei Popov and neurobiologist Ricardo Gil da Costa.
