The British Academy of Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) today announced the shortlist of five nominees for the category Film Not in the English Language.
The nominees are:
The Baader Meinhof Complex
Gomorrah
I've Loved You So Long
Persepolis
Waltz with Bashir
The nominees were selected through Chapter voting, where Academy voting members with expertise in a specific area of the film industry vote.
The whole membership will vote to decide the winner, to be announced at the Orange British Academy Film Awards on Sunday 8 February 2009.
The five shortlisted films have all received nominations in the longlist of other categories. I've Loved You So Long has the most longlist nominations, with five, while Waltz With Bashir and Persepolis have three and two respectively.
Finola Dwyer, Chair of BAFTA's Film Committee, said 'We are delighted to announce the contenders for this award today. This voting chapter has doubled in size since last year, reflecting the huge enthusiasm for world cinema amongst the BAFTA members'.
