The 4th World Film Festivalof Bangkok will open on October 11 with a gala premiere of Feng Xiaogang's The Banquet.

The 13-day festival, ashowcase of contemporary Asian and world cinema, will screen more than 70 filmsfrom 30 countries at three venues in Bangkok.

Eight films have beenselected for competition, including Corneliu Porumboiu's 12:08 East of Bucharest, Gianfranco Quattrini's Chicha Tu Madre and Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Climates.

Among the confirmed guestsare Tsai Ming-liang, Lee Kang-sheng, Pang Ho-cheung, Tahmineh Milani, MeltemCumbul, Samir Nasr, Louis Llosa and Abhjit Guha.

Meanwhile, in the Produireau Sud workshop for South-East Asia, six pairs of youngAsian producers-directors have been selected for a three-day workshop to beconducted by producer Elise Jalladeau, scriptwriter Miguel Machalski and sales agent Pierre Menahem.

The pair with the bestscript will be invited to the 3 Continents Festival at Nantes, France, to meet with potential investors.

Organised by the Nationnewspaper and headed by Kriengsak "Victor" Silakong, the World Film Festivaleach year has approximately 20,000 people in attendance.
