Bavaria to pre-sell Sandra Nettelbeck’s comedy starring Michael Caine at EFM.

Bavaria Film International has come on board Sandra Nettelbeck’s ‘comedic melodrama’ Mr Morgan’s Last Love starring Michael Caine, and will start pre-sales here at the EFM.

Two-time Oscar winner Caine plays an American professor in Paris who must find new direction after the death of his wife. He is inspired by a young French woman and also reconnects with his estranged son.

The €6m-budgeted feature is adapted from the novel La Douceur Assassine by Françoise Dorner.

The German/French co-production is spearheaded by Ulrich Stieh of Kaminski.Stiehm.Film in co-production with Bavaria and Elzevir Films (France). Shooting is due to start in Paris in August this year.

Senator Film Verleih will distribute in German-speaking Europe.

Mr Morgan’s Last Love features all the ingredients that Sandra Nettelbeck has proven to handle so well as it is a heartfelt, sadly touching but uplifting story of loss and love. The material calls for a fine balance between emotions and humor that Sandra knows to strike so beautifully. I am more than happy to continue our collaboration after Mostly Martha,” said Thorsten Ritter, head of Bavaria Film International. “And such an outstanding and adored actor as Michael Caine will easily carry this film and win any audience over around the world.”

Nettelbeck previously directed international hit Mostly Martha and her first English-language film was Helen starring Ashley Judd.
