Bavaria closes deal at Rome Film Festival for Hotel Lux; Mr Morgan’s Last Love starts shooting in Paris with Michael Caine.

Bavaria Film International has sold Leander Haussmann’s Hotel Lux [pictured] to Archibald for Italy. The film had a gala premiere at the current Rome Film Festival.

Haussmann wrote and directed the adventure-comedy set in Nazi Berlin in 1938. Michael ‘Bully’ Herbig and Thekla Reuten star in the story of a comedian who becomes Stalin’s personal astrologer.

Producers are Gunter Rohrbach (Das Boot) and Corinna Eich of Bavaria Pictures.

Constantin opened the film in Germany last week.

“I am very happy that we finally found with Hotel Lux, another beautiful film on which we are able to continue our great and successful collaboration with Bavaria Film International,” said Vania Traxler, president of Archibald Film.

Separately, Bavaria has announced that Sandra Nettelbeck’s Mr. Morgan’s Last Love has started shooting in Paris as of Oct 28.

Michael Caine stars with Clemence Poesy, Justin Kirk, Jane Alexander, Anne Alvaro and Gillian Anderson.

Caine stars as a lonely American widower who gets a new lease on life in Paris.

It makrs Nettelbeck’s second English-language film.

The German/Belgian co-production is spearheaded by Bavaria Pictures (Germany) and Kaminski.Stiehm.Film (Germany), in co-production with Senator Film (Germany), Scope Pictures (Belgium) and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (US), in association with Elzevir Films (France).

Senator will handle distribution in German-speaking Europe.
