As expected, the BBC has announced a restructuring of BBC Films. Jane Tranter, Controller BBC Fiction, has said that the film arm's day-to-day management and decision-making will be the responsibility of a new board, comprised of Christine Langan (comissioning editor, BBC Films), Jamie Laurenson (executive producer, BBC Films), Joe Oppenheimer (executive producer, BBC Films) and Jane Wright (commercial affairs and general manager, BBC Films).

All four will executive produce feature films.

Jane Wright will chair the board and be responsible for day to day operations, finance, and distribution.

Langan will manage the development slate and development team.

Laurenson will work with BBC 4 and Ben Stephenson, head of drama comissioning, on the channel's slate of single films.

Oppenheimer will manage the BBC's relationship with HBO Films.

Tranter is already responsible for BBC Films, and Langan, Laurenson and Oppenheimer will report to her. However, Wright will report to Claire Evans, Head of Operations and Business Affairs, BBC Fiction.

BBC Films will move from its existing offices on London's Mortimer Street to the BBC Television Centre in White City, West London, in early 2008.

As previously reported, David Thompson is leaving his post as head of BBC Films.

'This move will bring BBC Films back into the heart of the BBC, and in particular BBC Fiction, enabling much greater creative collaboration across BBC Fiction - Drama, Comedy and Acquisition - with Films very much at the centre of the Department. BBC Films will also benefit from closer access to other key genres at the BBC, allowing for a more fluid traffic of talent and a more effective cross-fertilisation of ideas. We aim to build on the fantastic success BBC Films has had under David Thompson, and build on the enviable reputation it has both here and internationally.'
