DreamWorks' animated hit Bee Movie gets a big push through PPI this weekend and launches in 24 territories including France on December 12, Germany on December 13 and the UK on December 14.

The film has amassed $39m to date and will pose a major threat to New Line International's The Golden Compass, which launches in 16 territories as executives look to bulk up that film's overseas profile.

Following last weekend's decent debut the fantasy saga has amassed $59.3m and all eyes will be on Italy and Mexico to bring in strong returns.

The Golden Compass might also face a strong challenge for the overseas crown this weekend in the shape of Warner Bros Pictures International's (WBPI) horror sci-fi I Am Legend starring Will Smith.

Smith has been traveling in Asia in support of his latest star vehicle and will be looking to reap the rewards of an intense publicity blitz in the region.

I Am Legend launches day-and-date with North America in eight territories including Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The film rolls out across Europe next weekend.

Japan should prove to be a fierce battleground this weekend as Fox International opens The Simpsons Movie there. The animated hit is expected to perform strongly and has amassed $342.4m from its travels so far. PPI will also release the comedy Blades of Glory in Japan.

Fox International's Hitman will be lining up his sights in a further 14 territories including Germany and Switzerland on December 13 followed by Brazil a day later. The action title has grossed $27.2m so far.

Family title Alvin And The Chipmunks opens day-and-date with North America in 10 including Hong Kong and Singapore.

Universal's historical drama Elizabeth: The Golden Age launches in four territories through UPI including Taiwan on December 15; it stands at $34.4m.

Crime drama American Gangster has amassed $48.6m so far and opens in two including Russia on December 13. Lust, Caution opens in Spain on December 14; it has grossed $2.7m excluding Asia.

Italy sees the launch of Leonardo Pieraccioni's film Una Moglie Bellissima (A Beautiful Wife) through Medusa on 700 screens and Focus Features' Eastern Promises through Eagle. Eastern Promises stands at $21.7m.

Summit's thriller P2 opens in Mexico on December 14.
