UK actor Ben Whishaw is in final negotiations to star in Bright Star as 19th-century poet John Keats.

Jane Campion will write and direct the period romance about the relationship between Keats and Fanny Brawne, who will be played by Abbie Cornish.

The project is set to start shooting for Pathe International in late summer or early autumn.

Whishaw was nominated for the BAFTA Orange Rising Star Award for his leading role in Perfume: The Story of A Murderer, and he is also appearing in upcoming projects Brideshead Revisited by Julian Jarrold and I'm Not There by Todd Haynes.

Whishaw is repped by Christian Hodell of Hamilton Hodell and Hylda Queally of CAA.
