Online entertainment hub Mevio chairman and CEO Ron Bloom has launched the vertically integrated studio BiteSize Entertainment and brought in producer Gene Kirkwood and Ross Elliot’s Kirkwood-Elliot to handle exclusive production.

Kirkwood-Elliot Productions is developing a feature on the disgraced former News International head Rebekah Brooks as it assembles a slate of four to six higher budget commercial features alongside a roster of theatrical micro-budget films.

Bloom is planning cross-platform programming built around theatrical releases that can be exploited through Mevio’s online infrastructure.

BiteSize Entertainment will be based in LA, with satellite production offices in New York, Miami and London and a technology centre in San Francisco. The company broke ground this week on its new state-of-the-art studio at the W Hotel in Hollywood that is expected to be operational in 90 days.

Kirkwood served as executive producer on Rocky and produced The Pope Of Greenwich Village. Kirkwood-Elliot is producing the Noel Coward dramedy Mad Dogs And Englishmen and has partnered with Odenkirk-Provissiero Entertainment and Mary Jane Skalski on upcoming dark comedy Girlfriends Day starring Bryan Cranston.

“With BiteSize, we are combining Silicon Valley startup prowess with Hollywood creative genius,” Bloom said, “reshaping the nature and format of entertainment from short form to feature-length.”

“With BiteSize we are combining the best of Hollywood with a new economic and distribution model that brings talent closer to the bottom line,” Kirkwood said. “We look forward to forming important and successful alliances with filmmakers, actors and distributors around the globe.”
