Universal's The Bourne Ultimatum remained the number one film in international markets as an estimated $20.8m from 4,333 sites in 46 territories raised the
international total through UPI to $125m.

The spy thriller has now passed the lifetime totals of The Bourne Identity on $92m and The Bourne Supremacy on $112m and still has 14 territories to go including Italy on Nov 1 and China on Nov 15.

Weekend business was propelled by a $4.4m number one launch in France on 462 sites, and a phenomenal, table topping $3.6m in South Korea from 219 for Universal's second biggest opening ever behind King Kong.

Ultimatum opened top in Belgium on $860,000 from 58, The Netherlands on $1m from 92, Norway on $776,000 from 62, and second in Sweden on $695,000 from 67. It held on to number one in Germany on $2.8m from 658 after a 39% slip for $8.6m after two, and has already overtaken the lifetime gross of Supremacy and is expected to pass Identity's final tally this week.

Atonement added $2.9m from 412 in the UK following a 9% fall in the second weekend to rank second behind Entertainment's Run, Fat Boy Run on $8.9m. The Ian McEwan adaptation opens in Italy on Sept 21.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry grossed $4.1m from 1,575 venues in 25 territories for $20.5m. The comedy launched in third place in Spain on $1m from 263.

Knocked Up added $2.3m from 1,325 sites in 23 territories for $48.5m, while Evan Almighty added $1.4m from 1,490 in 38 for $54.2m.

Fox International's The Simpsons pulled off an astonishing debut in Italy, where an estimated $8.7m from 702 screens produced the biggest animated release in history.

Overall the animated feature added $10.5m from 2,300 screens for $321m. The film opens in its final major market of Japan in December.

Die Hard 4.0 grossed $2.4m from 900 for $233.7m and stayed top in its second weekend in Spain as $2m from 550 raised the tally there to $7.3m.

DreamWorks/Paramount's Shrek the Third grossed $5.3m from 1,700 locations in 64 territories through PPI for $459m. The film delivered the biggest animated opening ever in Greece on $938,000 including previews from 88 screens.

Excluding previews of $370,000, this ranked 11% higher than the launch of Madagascar and 40% higher than that of Shrek 2.

The thriller Disturbia grossed an estimated $3.1m from 1,321 sites in 51 for $28.3m, powered by a $1.4m UK launch on 405.

A Mighty Heart opened in Europe on $1m from 355 sites, taking $551,000 in Spain from 152 venues and $200,0000 from 147 screens in Germany Transformers stands at $381m following a $1m weekend haul from 1,130 venues in 63 territories, while Stardust has amassed $17.4m.

Warner Bros Pictures International's romantic comedy No Reservations added $4.9m from more than 1,950 prints in 44 markets for a $24.5m international running total.
The highlight launches were $1m including previews in Germany from 426 for fourth place, $690,000 from 233 in Italy for fourth place, and $659,000 from 247 in France for fifth.

In its 10th weekend in release Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix added $1.9m from approximately 2,600 prints in 48 territories for $639.1m. The UK is the biggest market on $99.3m, followed by Japan on $75.6m, Germany on $62m, and France on $51.4m. Ocean's Thirteen stands at $191.8m.

Sony Pictures Releasing International's comedy Superbad launched in its first overseas markets of the UK and New Zealand, taking $3.1 from 478 screens. The film took $2.9m from 425 to rank second or third in the UK. And opened in fifth place in New Zealand on $155,000 from 53.

Surf's Up added $3.4m from 2,405 screens in 35 markets for $43.1, powered by a third place $1.3m launch in Germany on 550 screens. It also opened in fourth place in Australia on $850,000 from 240. Lionsgate's Jason Statham-Jet Li action title War added $1.4m from 11 territories to raised the running total to $6.1m.
