UPDATED FEB 25: John McClane held on to the number one international spot in its second weekend through Fox International after a confirmed $35.5m from 10,587 screens in 67 markets propelled the tally to $132.8m.

A Good Day To Die Hard opened top in France and Brazil on $5.5m from 650 and $2.6m from 531, respectively, while the number three Indian debut generated $1.4m from 663 to score Fox’s sixth biggest launch in the market.

Bruce Willis and Co stayed top in Germany on $2.9m from 669 for $10.2m and did the same in Japan on $2.9m from 644 for $13.4m. The action thriller ranks number two in the UK after $2.8m from 711 boosted the tally to $13.1m.

Lincoln starring best lead actor Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis and Life Of Pi from best director Oscar winner Ang Lee continued to deliver the goods internationally. Steven Spielberg’s historical drama added $5.4m from 2,812 in 48 markets to reach $67.5m, of which $12.1m comes from lead market the UK. Ang Lee’s fantasy adventure added $2m from 1,891 in 16 to reach $471.5m.

Fox International Productions’Break Up Man stands at $22.7m in Germany and has already surpassed the biggest local language title of 2012.

  • UPDATED: A muscular $18.1m from the Chinese debut on 4,009 screens for The Hobbit produced the fourth biggest three-day opening weekend for a US film and Warner Bros’ third biggest opening weekend behnd The Dark Knight Rises’ seven-day launch and the Harry Potter finale’s four-day debut. China elevated the running total to $679.6m. Gangster Squad added $3.2m for $50.4m.
  • UPDATED: Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner had plenty to celebrate heading into Oscar night as Les Misérables (which ended up winning three statuettes on the night) overtook Notting Hill to become the London-based company’s biggest global earner on $395.1m. The musical added $9.1m from 3,640 venues in 52 territories through Universal Pictures International (UPI) to stand at $248.4m internationally. It arrived in Germany in fourth place on a soft $1.7m from 397.

Ted stands at $320.9m internationally and $35.9m in Japan, while Oscar nominee Zero Dark Thirty has generated $20.7m from the 12 Universal territories and Mama has produced $27.3m and is projected to cross $100m worldwide this week. The genre title stayed top for the third consecutive weekend in Spain as $1.4m from 310 sites boosted the tally to $8.5m.

French family comedy La Vrai Vie Des Profs, which UPI handles in France, opened in sixth place on $999,643 from 288. Jackie Chan starrer Chinese Zodiac has grossed $9.4m in Russia after four weekends.

  • UPDATED: Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained — winner of the best original screenplay Oscar — grossed $8.9m through Sony Pictures Releasing International from 3,855 screens in 69 territories to reach $221.8m. The revenge Western added $1.9m from 693 in its sixth weekend in Germany to reach $42.5m and $1.8m from 676 in France to stand at $32.8m after six. The UK has generated $23.6m after six. Hotel Transylvania added $3.3m from 974 in 28 for $189.3m.
  • Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International reported that its Oscar nominee Wreck-It Ralph brought in a further $8m to reach $241.5m internationally and $428.2m worldwide. The animation contender stands at $28.9m in the UK, $24.1m in Australia, $20.6m in Brazil and $14.7m in Russia. The film will open in in its final market Japan on Mar 23.
  • UPDATED: Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters grossed a further $4.6m from 1,988 cinemas in 39 countries reported through Paramount Pictures International (PPI) to reach $108.5m after six weekends. Flight stands at $53.1m and Jack Reacher stands at $133.6m internationally and $213m worldwide. Tad – The Lost Explorer has amassed $12.9m from Latin America. PPI acquired rights for the region and for Spain.
  • StudioCanal’s I Give It A Year added just over $1m in the UK to reach $8.2m or more than £5m.
  • UPDATED: The latest update from Focus Features International reports that Cloud Atlas has amassed $18.4m and has generated $4.8m in Italy and $4.7m in Brazil, both after seven weekends. Mexico has yielded $1.9m after nine and the Netherlands $1.3m after 13.Hyde Park On Hudson stands at an early $1.8m and Moonrise Kingdom $22.8m.
