JAN 19 UPDATE: Disney/Lucasfilms’ Star Wars smash has become the first film in Disney history to cross $1bn at the international box office.

WALT DISNEY STUDIOS MOTION PICTURES INTERNATIONAL

Star Wars: The Force Awakens added an estimated $47.3m internationally to reach $1.012bn and in so doing became the fifth film to cross the threshold.

A further $72.4m consolidated the film’s status as the third biggest worldwide release in history and propelled the running total to $1.87bn. North American has generated a record $851.1m.

With China slowing down on $95.2m within its first week there remains a chance that The Force Awakens could overtake Titanic’s $2.186bn final haul to rank second behind Avatar on a seemingly unassailable $2.78bn.

However to do so Disney would need to keep the film in theatres around the world at least through April.

The UK has generated a record-breaking $168m, while the space opera became the third film to cross $100m in Germany where it has reached $100.1m and held on to number one for the fifth weekend in Japan to stand at $73.5m.

France has delivered $80m, Australia $60.7m, Spain $33.4m, Italy $27.9m, Mexico $26.1m, Russia $25.7m and South Korea $24m.

FOX INTERNATIONAL

UPDATED: On the back of a magnificent week that brought 12 Oscar nominations and three Golden Globe wins including one for best dramatic film The Revenant earned a further $32.3m from 27 markets to vault to $59.5m.

The revenge thriller opened top in the UK on $7.9m and topped the South Korean charts on $5.7m. It opened at number two in Italy on $3.2m behind local smash Quo Vado and added $4.5m for $10.3m in Germany after two and ranked number one. A $3.3m number one hold in Russia boosted the tally there to $12.6m.

The Peanuts Movie crossed $100m as $7.4m from 59 elevated the running total $102.2m. It opened in Brazil at number one on $2.7m. Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Road Chip stands $46.5m from 33 and opened in Russia on $2m for third place.

Joy grossed $4.7m from 53 markets to reach $31.5m while DreamWorks’ Bridge Of Spies added $2m for $87m.

WARNER BROS PICTURES INTERNATIONAL

UPDATED: Creed grossed $14.5m from 34 markets to raise the running total to $32m. The drama opened top in France on $3.9m, $3.2m for number three in the UK and $2.9m for number three in Italy.

The German debut produced $1.5m in third place, while Brazil delivered $941,000.

Point Break added $2.5m from 13 Warner Bros markets led by a $1.2m number one hold in Mexico for $4.1m. Including Lionsgate markets the thriller grossed approximately $4.6m for $79.8m.

In The Heart Of The Sea stands at $65.6m and opened in its final port, Japan, on $741,000.

ASIA UPDATE

Boonie Bears III added $16m for $21m, while Royal Treasure arrived on $11.5m.

THE WEINSTEIN COMPANY

UPDATED: The Hateful Eight International added $13.2m from 23 territories to raised the tally to a promising $36m, buoyed by a $1.9m number one debut in Spain.

The revenge drama arrived in second place in Argentina on $357,000 and opened in Australia on 70mm at number 12 on $445,000.

A further $2.4m in the second weekend in France boosted the score to $7.7m, while the UK added $1.6m for $7.6m and Russia $1.6m for $3.2m. Scandinavia has delivered $4.4m so far.

LIONSGATE INTERNATIONAL

UPDATED: The Last Witch Hunter debuted in China at number three on $9.6m from 12 markets as the international running total climbed to $96.7m. Russia will rank as the lead market for a few more days on $9.7m.

The action horror has generated $8.9m in Brazil, $5.9m in Venezuela and $4.3m in the UK.

Point Break grossed $4.4m from 67 to reach $79.2m and held on to number one in Mexico were it has reached $4m after two weekends. The thriller has ended its run in China on $39.4m.

SONY PICTURES RELEASING INTERNATIONAL

UPDATED: Debuting one week ahead of North America, disaster film The 5th Wave starring Chloe Moretz opened in 30 markets across Europe, Middle East and Asia and surfaced with $8.6m.

Australia generated $1.5m, Germany $1.2m and Southeast Asia $3.6m, with Malaysia producing $1.1m for number one.

Goosebumps earned $1.4m including from 12 markets including Village Roadshow for $48.1m and opened in third place in Australia on $2m and in South Korea on $1.2m.

Spectre took $1.3m from 50 markets including MGM as the tally climbed to $676.9m. Hotel Transylvania 2 stands at $298.1m.

PARAMOUNT PICTURES INTERNATIONAL

Daddy’s Home grossed $7.8m from 39 markets for $50.4m as the comedy opened top in Argentina on $498,000 in a new Will Ferrell opening weekend record.

There were number one debuts in Colombia on $400,000 and Panama on $381,000, while the Netherlands produced $350,000 for third place.

The comedy grossed $2.1m for $20.8m in its fourth weekend in the UK and $1.1m for $12.9m after the same amount of time.

Oscar nominee The Big Short added $7m from 38 to reach $18m and arrived at number six in both Australia and Germany on $1.4m and $1m, respectively. Brazil generated $629,000 for number seven.

The financial crisis ensemble drama it added $1.2m for $3.7m after two sessions in Italy and stands at $1m in Mexico after two. France has generated $5m after four.

ITALY UPDATE

Italian smash Quo Vado added $4.9m and stands at $63m.

UNIVERSAL PICTURE INTERNATIONAL

UPDATED: Ride Along 2 opened in 11 territories day-and-date with the number one North American debut and delivered $2.8m.

The Danish Girl grossed $4.1m from 15 for an early $13.1m and opened in fourth place in Spain on $1m and number two in Mexico on $846,000. The Netherlands produced $171,000 from a limited release and Vietnam a strong $151,000 from 21 sites. The film stands at $8m after three sessions in the UK.

Sisters added $2.1m in 20 for $11.7m. Steve Jobs stands at $11.2m from 19. French hit Babysitting 2 has reached $21.7m (€19.9m) after seven weekends and has already passed the €15m lifetime total of the original.

Spanish smash Ocho Apellidos Catalanes (Spanish Affairs 2) has amassed $37.3m (€34.7m) after nine sessions.
