The studio’s combined grosses for the year-to-date have crossed the $2bn milestone for the fifth consecutive year and the seventh year overall — both achievements are industry records.

A solid $16m weekend session for the DreamWorks Animation release Turbo and a further $13.6m for genre hit The Wolverine drove weekend business.

The Wolverine has grossed $259m thus far, while Turbo stands at $144m. Earlier this year DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods finished on $398m.

Last week, 20th Century Fox Film chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos announced that he had promoted Paul Hanneman and Tomas Jegeus to co-presidents of worldwide marketing and distribution.

The pair previously served as co-presidents of Fox International.
