Liam Neeson and his very particular set of skills are back and audiences in the UK, Australia and China will be among those who can watch EuropaCorp’s thriller day-and-date with North American filmgoers.
Taken 2 is scheduled to arrive in the UK, Australia, China, Mexico, Brazil, Spain and Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Argentina and has already grossed more than $6.4m from last weekend’s launch in South Korea.
Fox International Production’s Viggo Mortensen crime drama Everybody Has A Plan arrives in Uruguay. Latest figures put Bollywood release Raaz 3D on $18.4m, while Ice Age 4 has reached $695.3m and Prometheus stands at $276.1m. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter on $67.5m opens in Germany and Austria.
Sony Pictures Releasing International (SPRI) opens Hotel Transylvania in around nine markets including Brazil and Argentina. The animation launched last weekend day-and-date with North America and stands at an early $15.7m.
Reside Evil: Retribution has amassed $145.7m overall, of which $134.8m comes from Sony markets. The Amazing Spider-Man has reached $491.5m. Everything Or Nothing: The Untold Story Of 007 and Sparkle arrive in the UK, while Damsels In Distress opens in France.
Looper grossed more than $14.2m from last weekend’s launch in several territories and all eyes will be on China when the Chinese distributor and co-producer DMG Entertainment is expected to announce official figures next week after the national holiday.
Reports vary as to how much the sci-fi thriller actually grossed in its opening weekend. Sources close to DMG say the co-producer is adamant Looper grossed around $20m, while Screen International understands the opening weekend number could be closer to $9m.
Looper arrives in a further seven territories this weekend including Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Denmark. The new arrivals boost the international screen count to around 5,755 – roughly 3,000 of which are in China.
Paramount Pictures International releases Madagascar 3 in Germany and Austria and the DreamWorks Animation smash has grossed $434m thus far.
Universal Pictures International’s Ted has grossed $220m while Anna Karenina stands at $7.7m.
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International’s Pixar release Brave stands at $287.1m, while Finding Nemo 3D has reached $10.7m and Tinker Bell Secret of The Wings hovers on $14.7m.
The Dark Knight Rises has grossed $631m through Warner Bros Pictures International.
