UPDATED: Gravity stayed top of the international arena as a confirmed $28.5m from close to 3.4m admissions on more than 5,785 screens in 38 markets propelled the early tally to $68.3m after two weekends.

Warner Bros Pictures International’s survival thriller starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney remained potent in its second weekend in Russia as $3.9m from 1,155 screens shot the tally to $14.1m.

A strong $3.1m German hold from 641 elevated the score to $8.1m, while Australia produced $3m from 469 to stay top for $8.2m and Spain and Italy each added $2m from 367 and 386 respectively for $5.1m and $5.6m.

Gravity debuted in Brazil at number two on $1.7m from 210 as 3D accounted for 91% of the overall gross. Launches in Argentina, Colombia and Puerto Rico generated around $1.9m from approximately 353. Argentina itself generated $915,000 and a 3D share of 82%.

Eight Asian markets delivered $5.7m from 941 screens for a $12.5m running total and opened top in India on $1.3m with China, Japan and South Korea still to come. Gravity stands at $33.3m worldwide on IMAX after two sessions.

The Conjuring stands at $172.6m and We’re The Millers $108.3m.

  • UPDATED: Sony Pictures Releasing International’s (SPRI)  Stalingrad grossed $17.3m from Russia and Ukraine. The historical epic opened top in both, generating $14.3m from 1,400 in Russia and $1.2m from 170 in Ukraine. The film grossed $2.3m from the two markets on 39 IMAX screens.

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2 amassed $9.2m from 3,034 in 32 for an early $21.5m. The family animation ranked number one in Brazil where it gained 5% in the second weekend on $3.3m from 660 for $7.7m. A further $1.8m from 1,186 in Mexico resulted in $5.3m and a number two ranking.

Insidious: Chapter 2 added $7.2m from 2,827 from SPRI markets for $25.6m rising to $36.8m including Blumhouse International licensees. The horror sequel added $1.7m from 650 in its second weekend in Russia to rank third on $7.9m. It opened at number two in Mexico on $1.2m from 775 and debuted at number four in Italy on $1.1m from 269.

2 Guns added $4.8m from SPRI markets for $28.7m rising to $42m incuding Foresight Unlimited licensees and launched in second place in Australia on $1.7m from 280. Elysium stands at $185m and The Smurfs 2$267.8m.

  • UPDATED: Universal Pictures International executivs reported that Despicable Me 2 added $11m from 3,011 sites in 38 territories to reach $522.9m. the family smash overtook Shrek Forever After on $521m to rank as the seventh biggest international animated release in history. About Time stands at an early $17.2m, while Witching & Bitching has amassed $4.4m in Spain and German title V8 stands at an early $1.2m from German-speaking Europe.
  • UPDATED: Lionsgate International’s Now You See Me debuted in China on approximately $8m from 4,400 screens as the mystery grossed $8.2m from 22 markets overall for a stunning $215.3m running total.

Prisoners returned $8.6m from 45 markets to propel the running total to $24m. The child abduction thriller opened at number three in France on $2.5m from 258. It opened in Germany on $1.4m from 254 and debuted in Spain on $845,000 from 279. For the third weekend in a row it finished top in the UK on $1.6m for $8.1m.

The Arnold Schwarzenegger-Sylvester Stallone thriller Escape Plan opened a week before North America in 16 markets for $3m. It ranks number one in the Middle East on approximately $1.2m. Riddick generated $1.5m from 51 markets to stand at $50.4m.

  • Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International top brass reported that Planes crossed $100m as $6.2m from 49 territories boosted the tally to $102.3m. A $3.5m number one French debut was the highlight of the weekend. The Lone Ranger added $2.4m for $170.7m.
  • UPDATED: Slowly but surely DreamWorks Animations’ Turbo is building a formidable running total through Fox International. The family release added $5.1m from 3,892 screens in 14 markets to reach $125.9m with the UK, France and Spain still to come. It added $1.9m to rank second in Germany on $4.8m after two sessions.

Runner Runner grossed $5.2m from 3,513 screens in 55 markets for $31.5m. The Justin Timberlake-Ben Affleck thriller arrived in Mexico on $799,761 from 469.

  • StudioCanal reported that Rush added $828,000 for $14.2m after five sessions.
