Interstellar has grossed an estimated $8.7m from it first days in 35 markets as Warner Bros rolls out the film in 62 countries this weekend.

Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi epic opened number one everywhere led by $1.8m in South Korea, $1.3m in Russia, $687,000 in Germany, $638,000 in Australia and approximately $1m from two days in France.

The film took $375,000 in Italy, $347,000 in Mexico and $236,000 in Brazil.

Interstellar opens in the UK and Spain on November 7 and by the end of the weekend will be active on more than 13,000 screens.

Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway and Michael Caine star. Paramount opens the film in North America this weekend.

Unsurprisingly the other studios are lying low. Fox International, which leads the Hollywood rankings for global box office for the year-to-date, releases Mexican smash Guten Tag, Ramon in Colombia, while Mr. Turner arrives in Germany.

Sony Pictures Releasing International has The Skeleton Twins in the UK, Heaven Is For Real in Germany and Tusk in New Zealand.
