Universal’s 3D reboot opened at number one in China on Tuesday [20] on an estimated $6.3m (CNY 38.5m) from 2,500 screens.

Studio sources said the opening day scored the fourth biggest of any Hollywood release for the year-to-date behind Iron Man 3 on $19.1m, Pacific Rim on $8.6m and Fast 6 on $8.3m.

Jurassic Park 3D compares well against other 3D reboots. Titanic 3D launched on $11.2m and 2012 3D arrived on $3m.

The adventure film’s international running total stands at $20.7m and it arrives this week in the UK, Mexico, Spain and Panama.
