FEBRUARY 8 UPDATE: DreamWorks Animation’s latest tentpole held on to top spot as a trio of new openers arrived with a whimper including Berlinale opener Hail, Caesar! from the Coen Bros.

Kung Fu Panda 3 added a confirmed $21.2m to reach $69.3m after two sessions and is on a roll internationally where it has soared to $129.1m and crossed $100m in China. The film will pass $200m worldwide on Monday.

Hail, Caesar! starring George Clooney arrived at number two on a lacklustre $11.4m from 2,232 theatres.

Nicholas Sparks romance The Choice opened at number five via Lionsgate on $6.1m from 2,631 while Pride And Prejudice And Zombies opened in sixth place through Screen Gems on $5.3m from 2,931.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens at number three crossed $2bn worldwide and stands at $906m in North America.The Revenant crossed $300m worldwide and ranks fourth third via Fox on $6.9m and $149.5m overall.

The Monkey King In 2D opened via China Lion on $166,391 from 38 theatres. Alejandro Amenabar’s Regression starring Emma Watson debuted on $33,915 in 100 sites.

Overall box office for the top 12 generated $82m and fell 34.4% against last weekend and fell 40% against the comparable session in 2015.

This week’s wide releases are: Deadpool via Fox; Zoolander 2 from Paramount; and How To Be Single from Warner Bros
