SEPTEMBER 29 UPDATE: The Maze Runner used a confirmed $28.8m haul from 62 markets to strengthen its grip on the international crown and repel a solid launch by Sony’s The Equalizer.

FOX INTERNATIONAL

UPDATED: Fox’s YA adaptation has raised itself to $92.4m after three sessions and in a trio of robust number one holds in the second weekend delivered $4.9m in South Korea for $12.2m, $2.8m in Australia for $8.1m and $1.4m in Spain for $3.9m.

Elsewhere The Maze Runner added $3.2m for $10.8m in Russia and $1.3m for $4m in Brazil after two and $1.4m for $7.9m in Mexico after three. In Malaysia, where the film ranks as the third highest release in history behind Avatar and X-Men: Days Of Future Past, it added $481,000 for $5.1m.

A $1m result in Holland led five number one debuts as the film took $536,000 in New Zealand, $446,000 in Peru, $429,000 in Chile and $318,000 in Puerto Rico. The film arrives in China, France, Germany, Italy, and the UK in October.

Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes swung to $488.5m following a $3.4m weekend that saw China add $1.3m for $107.4m after five sessions and Japan use $1.3m to boost to $7.9m after two. Venezuela has produced $5.1m after four.

DreamWorks Animation’s How To Train Your Dragon 2 stands at $439.1m, Let’s Be Cops stands at $27.2m and The Fault In Our Stars $178.7m. Fox International Productions’ El Nino has generated $17.4m in Spain after five weekends.

SONY PICTURES RELEASING INTERNATIONAL

The Equalizer starring Denzel Washington scored $15.4m from its initial foray day-and-date with the number one North American debut, rising to $17.8m including Village Roadshow markets.

The thriller debuted top in the UK on $2.9m from 650 screens and opened at number one in Russia on $2.7m from 800 for Washington’s biggest launch. Brazil and Mexico delivered number one and two debuts on $1.3m and $1.4m, respectively.

The Middle East accounted for $1.4m from seven markets, led by a Washington record in the UAE on $875,000 from 37.

The Village Roadshow markets produced $1.9m in Australia, $300,000 in Singapore and $180,000 in New Zealand.

Imax delivered $5m worldwide and $1.4m from 137 international screens.

Sex Tape grossed an estimated $5.1m from 43 markets to reach $78.6m and Deliver Us From Evil added $2.3m from 34 for $51.9m.

CHINA UPDATE

Dearest, which recently received its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, grossed $13.5m. We Distribution handles international sales on the epic China-Hong Kong child abduction thriller directed by Peter Ho-Sun Chan.

UNIVERSAL PICTURES INTERNATIONAL

UPDATE: EuropaCorp’s Lucy brought in a further $10m from 56 territories for $214.5m, rising to $269m including EuropaCorp markets.

The Scarlett Johansson thriller has reached $3.5m in Brazil after two sessions and opened top in Italy on $3.3m from 475 sites.

The Boxtrolls grossed $5.4m from 16 for an early $17.9m, fired up by a number five $1.2m debut in Russia on 811. The Laika animation added $1.8m in the UK for $8m after three and stands at $2.4m in Australia after the same period of time.

Legendary’s As Above/So Below has taken $14.9m from 42, The Purge: Anarchy $37.2m from 15 and Boyhood $13.8m from 24.

Get On Up began its international run in France and French-Switzerland and scored $479,000 in France and $13,000 in the French-speaking region of Switzerland.

The animated 3D German film Der Siebte Zwerg (The 7th Dwarf) opened in Germany, Austria and German-Switzerland on $696,000 from 641 venues, taking $491,000 in Germany from 808.  

WALT DISNEY STUDIOS MOTION PICTURES INTERNATIONAL

Guardians Of The Galaxy added $4m for $325.1m and $644.3m worldwide. The UK has generated $46.3m, Russia $37.4m, Australia $23.5m, Germany $21.9m, France $21.2m, Mexico $19.7m, Brazil $16.8m and South Korea $10.8m. The Marvel Studios film arrives in China on October 10 and Italy on October 22.

PARAMOUNT PICTURES INTERNATIONAL

UPDATE: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles added $4m from 40 territories to climb to $155.2m. The action film took $1.7m in its third session in Australia for $12.2m and stands at $3.7m in Italy after two.

Hercules grossed $2.5m from 22 for $151.1m and has reached $12.9m in Brazil and $7.4m in Germany, both after four. The action-adventure arrives in China on October 21 and Japan on October 24.

WARNER BROS PICTURES INTERNATIONAL

UPDATED: Into The Storm grossed $3.2m from 38 markets to reach $106.2m and opened in Argentina on $554,000 from 132 screens to rank second behind local phenomenon Relatos Salvajes.

China remains the top market so far on $17.1m, followed by South Korea on $15.8m, Mexico on $9.5m, Russia on $6.7m and Japan on $5.4m.

Relatos Salvajes stayed top in Argentina for the sixth consecutive weekend and has climbed to an astonishing $13.5m to overtake El Secreto De Sus Ojos and become the biggest local production in history.

Including results for Chile, Peru and Uruguay, the film has grossed $14.7m. It is scheduled to open in Spain on October 17, Brazil on October 23, Mexico on December 4 and France on January 14, 2015.

The Warner Entertainment Japan production Rurouni Kenshin:  The Legend Ends stayed top in its third session in Japan as $2.5m elevated the tally to $28.6m.

Horror film Annabelle debuted in Russia on $2.1m from 793 screens and launches in 22 international markets this week, among them Australia, Italy, South Korea and Taiwan.

If I Stay grossed $1.8m from 44 for $23.1m.
