UPDATED MARCH 24: DreamWorks’ Need For Speed grossed a further $29.2m from 55 territories in the second weekend to boost the running total to $96.1m.

The action film generated approximately $10.5m in the second session in China after a decent 47% drop to propel it to an early $41.7m through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International (WDSMPI). Russia has amassed $10.6m in Russia after two weekends.

Mister Smith representatives reported that Need For Speed opened in Germany on $3m through Constantin and took around $2m from the Middle East through Italia Film.

Muppets Most Wanted opened day-and-date with the North American debut in Mexico and a handful of other territories, scoring $1.5m overall and $900,000 in Mexico. The family sequel arrives in the UK next weekend.

Frozen has reached $1.05bn to become the twelfth biggest film in history. It overtook Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace on $1.028bn, Jurassic Park on $1.030bn and Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides on $1.046bn.

It remains the second highest grossing animation worldwide behind Toy Story 3 on $1.06bn and the biggest original, non-sequel IP.

Frozen added $9m at the weekend for $652m and remains the fourth biggest animation at the international box office.

  • UPDATE: Warner Bros Pictures International executives reported that 300: Rise Of An Empire added an estimated $21.2m from 63 markets to reach $196m.

The highlight of the session came from Brazil where the action sequel brought in a further $2.3m from 681 screens to reach $14.5m and stay top for the third weekend in a row, ahead of local release Sos Mulheres Ao Mar.

France produced approximately $1.8m for $13.5m, Germany approximately $1.7m for $11.7m, the UK approximately $1.3m for $11.4m, Russia approximately $1.2m for $16.8m and Mexico approximately $1.2m for $13.4m.

Rise Of An Empire has amassed $7.7m in Spain and $6.6m in Italy.

The Lego Movie grossed $5m from 54 markets $148.2m. The UK has generated $51.4m, France $12m, Mexico $9.9m, Spain $6.8m, Russia $6.1m, Brazil $5.6m and Italy $4.8m. The family hit opens in Australia on April 3 followed by Germany one week later.

  • UPDATE: DreamWorks Animation’s Mr Peabody & Sherman added $12.2m through 66 Fox International markets to reach $103.5m. The family release added $1.6m from 588 screens in Italy for $2.9m, $1.5m in Spain for $5.6m and $1.1m in Germany for $7.5m. 

Rio 2 arrived at number one in Russia and Ukraine to deliver a formidable $10.6m. The animation sequel opened on $9.9m in Russia from 2,478 screens.

The Grand Budapest Hotel added $9.7m from 23 markets to stand at $33.3m and grossed a further $2.1m in the UK to reach $10.5m, $1.2m in Russia for $2.8m and $1.2m in France for $8.2m. 

The comedy opened at number three in Spain on $1m from 196 screens and scored what the distributor claimed to be the biggest arthouse debut of all time in South Korea on $622,109 from 163. The number one Swedish launch delivered $498,108 from 101.

The Monuments Men grossed $5.4m from 35 for $62.5m.

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty opened in its final market of Japan on $3.3m as the international running total climbed to $124m. Devil’s Due stands at $15.9m.

  • Paramount and Regency Enterprises’ Noah directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Russell Crowe set sail in South Korea and Mexico one week ahead of North America and delivered a thunderous $14m.

The Biblical epic opened top in South Korea on $8.3m from 950 screens and single-handedly grossed more than the other top 10 films combined.

Mexico delivered $5.7m from 635 theatres for the biggest launch of the year-to-date and a new opening mark for Crowe. Similarly, the film outplayed the remaining top 10 releases combined. Noah arrives in Australia and Russia on March 27.

  • Non Stop produced $10m through StudioCanal markets to elevate the running total to $70m. The thriller passed £8m to become the distributor’s third biggest hit in the UK and stands at $13.4m (£8.1m).
  • Berlin Golden Bear winner Black Coal, Thin Ice generated approximately $6.5m over the weekend in its first international foray through Fortissimo markets.
  • UPDATE: Spanish rom-com Ocho Apellidos Vascos (Spanish Affairs), which Universal Pictures International distributes in Spain, stayed top for the second consecutive weekend as $6.1m (€4.4m) from 435 sites elevated the running total to $12.4m (€8.9m). The film scored the highest opening weekend of the year-to-date in Spain last weekend. Ride Along grossed $1.4m from 12 territories to stand at an early $13.3m and cruised into Australia on $840,000 from 130 sites to rank number four. The UK has generated $6.6m after four sessions. The Wolf Of Wall Street has amassed $110.3m through Universal markets. 47 Ronin stands at $109.7m and Dallas Buyers Club has grossed $2.5m from Latin America, where Universal is distributing for Focus Features.
  • Lionsgate International executives reported that 12 Years A Slave added $3.9m from 62 markets to reach $121.7m, including $32.7m in the UK through eOne. Summit Entertainment’s Divergent grossed around $1.7m from a first wave of smaller markets.
  • UPDATE: MGM and Columbia Pictures’ RoboCop added $1.4m from 39 markets to reach $181.7m, of which $150.1m comes from Sony Pictures Releasing International markets.
  • Under The Skin added 26 cinemas to reach a 73-strong footprint and added $312,000 to stand at $970,000 in the UK through StudioCanal after two weekends.
