Spurred on by Wednesday’s record opening day in the Philippines, Warner Bros Pictures International’s Man Of Steel bursts into 24 markets day-and-date with North America.

The Superman tale debuts in the UK, Mexico and South Korea and grossed $1.7m on its first day in the Philippines to set a new industry opening day mark.

The studio is in the thick of a busy early summer. Man Of Steel’s stablemates The Hangover Part III and The Great Gatsby have amassed $183.4m and $150m, respectively. Gatsby opens in Japan.

Sony Pictures Releasing International’s reigning box office champion, the sci-fi After Earth, stands at $65.5m and touches down this weekend in nine territories including Australia, New Zealand, Belgium and Holland.

The distributor reissues 2012 3D in South Korea and there is a smattering of Caribbean debuts for This Is The End day-and-date with the comedy’s North American debut.

Universal Pictures International’s smash Fast & Furious 6 raced to $380.6m by the close of last weekend and is expected to soar past the $400m mark.

Fox International opens comedy The Internship in around 20 markets, among them Australia, New Zealand and Russia. Latest figures put the animation Epic on $108.4m and DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods on $396.2m.

Star Trek Into Darkness has grossed more than $176.4mthrough Paramount Pictures International and opens in France, Italy, the French and Italian regions of Switzerland and Brazil.
