UPDATE JULY 21: Paramount Pictures International’s Transformers: Age Of Extinction grossed more than originally reported in its fourth session, taking $84.6m to reach $662.6m despite a mighty $61.9m from Fox’s Apes sequel.

PARAMOUNT PICTURES INTERNATIONAL

UPDATED: T4 opened in seven new territories to bring the count to 58. The sci-fi scored a $16.3m number one debut in Brazil on 510 venues including previews, delivering a stinger that has already passed the lifetime total of each of the three previous instalments.

Germany produced $12.5m from 645 including previews for the biggest opening of the year-to-date, while France generated $10m from 850 and Italy $5.4m from 440 for the second biggest debut so far in 2014.

There was an exceptional $2.7m from 75 in Peru including previews that scored the second biggest Hollywood launch in history.

China – who else? – led the holdovers on $10.6m from 4,400 for $286.6m after four weekends, while South Korea reported $1.7m from 437 for $41.6m and Australia $1.1m from 273 for $24m after the same period of time.

In the second weekend, T4 added $4.7m in Mexico for $25.3m and $3m from 524 in the UK for $26.5m. The global haul stands at $886.3m.

FOX INTERNATIONAL

UPDATED: Days after Fox crossed $2bn for the year-to-date and $3bn worldwide, Fox International executives reported that Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes amassed $61.9m from 10,347 screens in 51 markets to reach $103.6m.

This is a highly promising foothold: the action sequel ranks number one in 36 markets with seven of the top 10 markets yet to open.

The sequel arrived top in the UK on $14.9m from 1,400 for the third biggest three-day launch of 2014 so far and scored 47% higher than the 2011 Rise debut. It opened top in Russia on $9.9m from 2,265, some 135% higher than the Rise launch.

There was a 2014 record debut in Spain where Apes took $4.9m from 754, while in further number one openings Taiwan produced $3.1m from 165, Hong Kong $2.2m from 132 for Fox’s second biggest debut ever behind X-Men: Days Of Future Past and Argentina $1.4m from 231 for another silver medal for the studio in the all-time pantheon behind Rio 2.

There were number one debuts too in Chile on $1.2m from 125, Sweden on $989,945 from 251, Holland on approximately $985,528 from 108, Denmark on $437,250 from 112 and Norway on $415,269 from 164.

DreamWorks Animation’s How To Train Your Dragon 2 grossed $14.6m from 66 for $226.4m. The UK added $3.2m from 1,400 to rank second in the second weekend with a $21.9m running total and France added $2.2m from 768 for number three and $18.2m after three. Venezuela delivered a $1.8m number one result from 121.

A further $4.8m from 55 boosted The Fault In Our Stars to $128.2m, while behind X-Men: Days Of Future Past used $1.5m from 33 to reach $508.1m. The Other Woman stands at $111.2m and Rio 2 has amassed $362.2m and $10.5m in Australia after three.

CHINA

Le Vision Pictures’s Chinese film Tiny Times 3.0 earned $30m, while horror title The House That Dies grossed $21m.

WALT DISNEY STUDIOS MOTION PICTURES INTERNATIONAL

Planes: Fire & Rescue arrived day-and-date with North America in 24 markets through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International for $9m. Mexico took the lead on $1.8m, followed by Brazil on $1.5m, Spain on $900,000 and Argentina and Japan on $800,000 apiece.

Maleficent added $8m from 45 territories and surged to $468.8m after eight weekends. China ranks as the lead market to date on $47.6m, then Mexico on $45.7m, Russia on $37.5m, Brazil $$32.3m and the UK $30.8m.

WARNER BROS PICTURES INTERNATIONAL

UPDATED: Blended grossed $7.2m from 2,150 screens in 51 markets through Warner Bros Pictures International for $59.3m. The Adam Sandler-Drew Barrymore comedy opened in second place in Brazil on $2.1m from 353 screens for the bigest debut for a Sandler film and stands at $4.1m including previews. Mexico has generated $10.1m after four weekends.

Edge Of Tomorrow added $2.3m from 57 for $261.3m and has amassed $11.6m after three sessions in Japan. China remains the top market on $63.6m followed by South Korea on $37.9m, Russia on $21.2m and the UK on $13.1m.

Jersey Boys has grossed $12.4m from 16 and stands at $5.4m in Australia and $2.6m in the UK.

SONY PICTURES RELEASING INTERNATIONAL

UPDATED: Sony Pictures Releasing International’s comedy Sex Tape starring Cameron Diaz opened in nine markets on $3m. It arrived in Australia in second place on $2.3m from 315 screens  

22 Jump Street added $3.3m from 42 for $88.4m.

LIONSGATE INTERNATIONAL

Step Up: All In has amassed $10.3m through Lionsgate International licensees and 18 Universal Pictures International (UPI) territories.

The latest episode in the dance saga opened in second place in Russia on $3.1m from 1,000 sites and arrived in second place in France through UPI on $2.1m from 280.

UNIVERSAL PICTURES INTERNATIONAL

UPDATED: UPI reported that The Purge: Anarchy grossed $389,157 from 392 sites day-and-date with the North American debut. Theses are early days internationally and the original film finished on $27m.

Neighbors stands at $105.3m, Mrs. Brown’s Boys D’ Movie has taken $21.7m from four sessions in the UK and A Million Ways To Die In The West has reached $41.7m internationally.

Boyhood, which Universal distributes in most international territories, grossed $660,000 from 290 dates in five territories for an early $4.5m. The coming-of-age drama added $537,000 in the UK for $1.5m after two weekends.
