UPDATE: The final episode in the franchise had reached more than $162.2m worldwide by Saturday (17), Lionsgate sources said. The number includes approximately $91m from 61 territories and $71.2m from the opening day in North America, which includes $30.4m from Thursday midnight shows for the sixth biggest opening day in history.

Lionsgate sources said studio top brass were estimating $135m for the weekend, although distribution experts said the film could finish the weekend on more than $150m.

On Thursday Lionsgate International reported a string of major opening day results. In France the day before it generated a 2012 opening day record of $1.8m and 219,000 admissions. The studio called a record 2012 opening day in Italy but data was unavailable at time of writing.

The film scored $392,000 from 50 screens and 21,000 admissions in the Netherlands for a new franchise opening day mark, as well as $531,000 from marathons and double features in Belgium and $362,000 from marathons and double features in Sweden. 

Sony, MGM and Eon’s Skyfall has reached a formidable $455.7m through Sony Pictures Releasing International (SPRI) and MGM licensees. However, it would seem even the redoubtable James Bond will not be up to the task of fending off his supernatural adversaries. Hotel Transylvania has amassed $132.2m. SPRI opens Sundance entry Robot And Frank in Australia and New Zealand.

Paramount Pictures International launches the heavyweight Oscar contender Flight in Russia and DreamWorks Animation’s Rise Of The Guardians in China. Paranormal Activity 4 stands at $79.5m.

Universal Pictures International’s The Bourne Legacy has reached $161m including $10.5m from Japan.

Warner Bros Pictures International reports that awards season contender Argo has grossed $31.5m to date.

Fox International reports that Taken 2 has amassed $218.7m through Fox and EuropaCorp territories, while Ice Age 4 stands at $716.9m.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International’s Frankenweenie on $30.2m arrives in Singapore, while Finding Nemo 3D on $15.6m opens in Hungary, Chile and Poland.

Tinker Bell: Secret Of The Wings has grossed $36.8m and debuts in Germany and Austria. Wreck-It Ralph has taken $30.4m from the early stages of release.
