UPDATED: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 dominated its second weekend through a confirmed $104.2m haul that came in much higher than Sunday estimates and propelled the early tally to $365.5m. In an unprecedented one-two for the company, combined box office crossed $1bn internationally and $2bn worldwide.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 has reached $589.9m worldwide. The adventure retained its number one ranking in virtually all the major markets except Australia where it was ousted by the Skyfall debut.

A $16.9m German debut on 765 screens led the way and set a franchise record and second best launch of the 2012. Austria and German-speaking Switzerland generated $2.6m and $1.7m, respectively.

The international and North American box office tallies for the year so far stand at $1.005bn and $1.18bn respectively.

Breaking Dawn – Part 2 contributed $1m to another excellent weekend for IMAX, which reported a $13.4m session at the global box office stemming from its involvement in several major releases.

Skyfall has amassed $49m worldwide through IMAX, while Life Of Pi brought in $3m from 97 screens in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

  • UPDATED: Speaking of Skyfall, the latest James Bond episode produced a confirmed $41.8m through Sony Pictures Releasing International to reach $494.3m, rising to more than $571.2m including MGM licensees. Weekend results from MGM markets were unavailable at time of writing. The global running total has crossed $791.8m.

Skyfall opened top in Australia on a confirmed $12.8m from 577 screens and added $6.1m from 1,269 in its fifth weekend in the UK to reach a spectacular $144.3m. A further $6.4m from 1,208 in the fourth session in Germany raised the tally there to $66.3m.

After five weekends Bond stands at $52.7m in France and $24.8m in Russia. In a string of sensational fourth-weekend European results, the thriller has amassed $15.9m in Switzerland, $15.8m in Italy and $15.5m in Holland.

Hotel Transylvania added $5.4m from 3,762 screens in 58 markets to reach $147.8m and has grossed $12.9m in Spain after five and $12.4m in the UK after seven.

  • UPDATED: Ang Lee’s philosophical adventure Life Of Pi scored an excellent initial international foray day-and-date with North America, earning a confirmed $23.9m from 5,483 screens through Fox International in five number one debuts.

China led the way with a $16.1m launch on 4,500 - some 60% higher than Sunday estimates — followed by $3.6m from 647 in India – the spiritual homeland of Yann Martel’s book upon which the film is based – for the third biggest non-franchise release of all time behind Avatar and 2012.

Pi grossed $2.3m from 165 in Taiwan and $1.4m from 109 in Hong Kong in what turned out to be Lee’s biggest ever debut in the territory. The film launched in Puerto Rico on $381,741 from 62.

Taken 2 stands at $225.9m through Fox and EuropaCorp markets and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter $79.2m.

  • DreamWorks Animation’s Rise Of The Guardians took $10m through Paramount Pictures International (PPI) from 3,869 cinemas in eight territories as the early running total climbed to $13.5m. 

The animation opened in Russia on $5.9m from 800 sites and gets the big push next week when it is set to arrive in around 50 new territories.

Flight added $723,000 from five for an early $3.4m and stands at $1.7m in Russia after two weekends. Paranormal Activity 4 has reached $84.5m and opened in Italy on $512,000 from 160 locations. Madagascar 3 stands at $524.1m.

  • UPDATED: Warner Bros Pictures International’s Argo added a confirmed $6m from approximately 2,520 screens in 47 markets for $50m. After three weekends the drama stands at $6.4m in France and $6.2m in the UK while Australia has generated $9.6m after five.
  • The Impossible brought in $1m in its seventh weekend in Spain where the tsunami drama has reached an extraordinary $49.8m (€38.5m).
  • Universal Pictures International reported that The Man With The Iron Fist took $796,000 from 255 sites in four territories for an early $835,505 running total. The aciton film opened in Spain on $409,000 from 209. Pitch Perfect stands at $4.6m, Anna Karenina an early $11.2m, ParaNorman $43.2m and The Bourne Legacy $162.6m.
  • Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International executives said Wreck-It Ralph grossed $2.1m to reach an early international running total of $41.2m and $190.8m worldwide.
  • UPDATED: FilmNation executives reported on Monday that Looper has reached $98.3m, mostly through FilmNation licensees. The tally includes a substantial amount in China through co-financier DMG Entertainment, who last reported $20.2m.
